After-school clubs are where students develop deeper English vocabulary tied to their passions — not the textbook list, but words they actually want to know. Basketball, choir, robotics, eco-club: each becomes a vocabulary universe.

The five moments below cover the typical year of any club — joining, practicing, creating, serving, competing. Pull the section that matches your club type; don't try to apply all five everywhere.

The first English-rich moment of the club year is sign-up. Bilingual sign-up forms, an English question-asking ritual, and a welcome handshake from older students set the tone.

Have older students run the sign-up table, not teachers. Older students naturally use the same simple English a Grade-4 needs. Plus it gives them leadership ownership.

What it is · 做法

Sports vocabulary is the easiest English students will ever learn — they NEED these words to play. Teach 'pass,' 'shoot,' 'foul,' 'time-out' in the first practice and reinforce every session.

運動詞彙是學生最容易學的英文——他們「需要」這些字才能玩。第一次練習就教 pass / shoot / foul / time-out，之後每次練習都重複使用。

Use ONLY English for sports calls during practice — even if the coach also speaks Mandarin. The chaos of a game is the perfect context: students figure out 'pass' the second time they hear it.

Art and music clubs offer rich vocabulary tied directly to physical objects — brushes, palettes, scores, instruments. Label every shared item bilingually. The label becomes the lesson.
