International Sister School 國際姊妹校 · 同齡學生的真實連結

A sister-school relationship gives students someone real — same age, on the other side of the world — to speak English to. Even a 20-minute Zoom meet-up per semester transforms how students think about why they're learning the language.

Five stages from match to visit 從媒合到互訪的五階段

The five stages below are in order — match, video letters, live meet-ups, pen-pal letters, then in-person visits. Each stage assumes the prior one is working. Don't skip to Zoom before video letters; don't fly people without two years of online history.

Finding a Partner School · 尋找夥伴學校

What it is · 做法

Several free or low-cost matching programs exist — ePals, iEARN, MOFA's Taiwan-friendly school network. Apply through one rather than cold-emailing schools abroad; the platform handles time-zone matching and basic vetting.

Match by school size and rural/urban character, not just country. A rural Changhua school often connects more meaningfully with a small-town American or Australian school than with a big-city one.

Video Letter Exchange · 影片信

What it is · 做法

The simplest first contact: every student records a 30-second self-intro. Edit four into a 2-minute class video. Send via Google Drive or WeTransfer. Partner school responds with theirs.

最簡單的初接觸:每位學生錄一段 30 秒自介,剪成 2 分鐘班級影片。透過 Google Drive 或 WeTransfer 寄送,夥伴校再回寄他們的版本。

Watch the partner school's video together as a class. Pause and discuss every detail — house style, accent, classroom look. The first video sets the tone for the year.

Live Zoom Meet-Up · 即時連線

What it is · 做法

A 30-minute Zoom with a structured agenda: 5 min ice-breaker → 10 min mini-tour of each classroom (camera walk) → 10 min Q&A → 5 min farewells. Don't open the screen without an agenda.

30 分鐘的 Zoom,要有議程:5 分鐘破冰 → 10 分鐘各班教室小導覽(用相機走一圈)→ 10 分鐘問答 → 5 分鐘道別。沒議程的連線就是混亂。

Pre-write 8–10 questions in English class the day before. Tape them to each student's desk. Even shy students will ask one if they don't have to invent it on the spot.

Pen-Pal Letters · 筆友通信

What it is · 做法

Despite all the digital tools, physical letters still produce the deepest writing. Bimonthly handwritten letters, mailed in a class envelope. Students keep their pen-pal's letters in a portfolio.

再多數位工具,紙本信件仍會逼出最深的寫作。兩個月一輪手寫信,整班裝同一個信封寄出。學生把收到的信收進個人學習履歷。

Photograph every outgoing letter. When a student loses theirs (it happens), the photo is the only record. Also: parents love seeing the photos.

Activity 05

Exchange Visit Preparation · 互訪準備

從第二年起,把連線變成真實見面

What it is · 做法

After 1–2 years of online exchange, plan an in-person visit (your side hosts first; reciprocal visit follows). Even if only 4–6 students go, the rest of the school participates as hosts.

經過 1–2 年的線上交流後,安排實地互訪(先由我方接待,下一年回訪)。即便只去 4–6 位學生,全校都能以接待者身份參與。

Brief host families in writing two weeks before. Most awkwardness comes from over-formality. Coach families: 'Be normal. Eat at your normal time. Watch your normal TV. They are here to see your real life.'

出發前兩週書面提醒接待家庭。大多數尷尬來自「過度客氣」。教家庭:「就照平常過。平常時間吃飯、平常電視一起看。他們是來看你們真實生活的。」
